What ideas do you have about your final project?

During the final half of my first year as a teacher, I thought about how beneficial it would have been if I taught my students by using digital media and connecting it to the literature concepts discussed in class. One way I want to approach this is by giving the students the digital tools to create video essays to analyze themes and concepts related to the classroom content. After reading the Christensen article, I realized that in order to promote media literacy in my classroom, I need to expose students to the idea of creating content in a meaningful way. A way to include this in my classroom space is by introducing students to the Canva video option. As someone with no experience with this specific area of Canva, I think that it would be a good opportunity to learn how to use this technology and understand how my students can express themselves through this medium.

  1. Hey Adrienne, yessss after using the Canva video function for the first time in class yesterday, I would totally recommend it! It was pretty easy to pick up in my opinion if you ever used iMovie or things similar to that it was a similar userface. It also is kind of similar to tiktok which I am sure a lot of your high school students are familiar with. This could honestly be super fun for them so I think you picked a good topic!

  2. Hi Adrienne! Thanks for the post! It was helpful to me in forming my own ideas, and for writing my own post. I love the idea of using video creation! And Michele's group the other day did a great job modeling how to do that. A lot of my students, if given a spare moment with a computer or phone will prop up a camera in a corner and start making dance style tiktok videos. This may be an intuitive way for them to interact with a medium they understand. The results might be surprising!
